Updated: Aug 14

Amending a contract comes with all the legal formalities of forming the initial agreement. Below are some steps to amending a contract:

  • Review contract

  • See what it says about amendments. Follow the contract.

  • Discuss your proposed amendment. Make sure you agree with the other party.

  • Write, “Agreement to ______________" at the top of the relevant page. Enter the names and titles of parties involved.

  • Clearly state in a sentence or two the purpose of the amendment.

  • That both parties are agreeing to amend this contract on such-and-such date and such-and-such time.

  • Clearly describe the changes in the amendment. Make sure to note the name or number of the section that is being revised.

  • Below the revision, write something like, “All other terms and conditions of the _______________________ to remain the same .”

  • Have all parties sign and date the changes.
