Amending a contract comes with all the legal formalities of forming the initial agreement. Below are some steps to amending a contract:
Review contract
See what it says about amendments. Follow the contract.
Discuss your proposed amendment. Make sure you agree with the other party.
Write, “Agreement to ______________" at the top of the relevant page. Enter the names and titles of parties involved.
Clearly state in a sentence or two the purpose of the amendment.
That both parties are agreeing to amend this contract on such-and-such date and such-and-such time.
Clearly describe the changes in the amendment. Make sure to note the name or number of the section that is being revised.
Below the revision, write something like, “All other terms and conditions of the _______________________ to remain the same .”
Have all parties sign and date the changes.
