Did your ex clean out your bank account? Owners of bank accounts typically have the ability to transfer funds without the consent of other owners. As such, you may be without recourse if your boy friend or girlfriend cleans out your bank account. One alternative is to require two signatures on the account. As such, do not open joint accounts lightly.
If you are a married couple then you may be protected.
If a petition for divorce was filed before the funds were removed then the court may have rules against this type of transfer. Furthermore, the court may require the spouse to pay back at least a portion of the funds transferred. Without surprise the court may not look favorably on the spouse that spends that money on a paramour.
